New Landscaping, Gazabo and More
Our story begins with a simple search for the Trees for Neighborhoods program which led to a RainWise webinar, a consultation with Product Water LLC., a great design and finally, a completed project.
Partially funded by Seattle Public Utilities’ RainWise program, we will showcase how innovative stormwater management can blend seamlessly with landscape beautification.
Laying the Groundwork
Before diving into the stormwater/rainwater, the first order of business was to address the home’s existing gutters. This crucial step allowed us to reimagine the property’s water flow dynamics. By installing new gutters, we were able manage the water.
New Gutter Benefits
Redirect water from previous gutter layout
Create better drainage by strategically placing low points
Concentrate water distribution to back of the house
A lot of Rainwater
1,200 sq ft roof, yields
26,000 gallons of rain per year.
New and Improved
The up to date gutter system, improves stormwater management and drainage, reduces flooding, while insuring maxium rain water collection.
Streamlined Water Flow
We eliminated several poorly placed downspouts. All runnoff is now channeled towards the back of the house, to a highly functioning side sewer connnection and our rain tank.
Careful Planning
Creating the pathway for rainwater and potential capture 100% of the runoff during late, moderate, and heavy rains in spring, summer, and fall. Keeps tanks topped off, establishing water security.
Rainwater Collection: Passive but Strategic.
Stormwater Management: Engineered for Extremes
Rainwater collection is a passive process, leveraging gravity to guide water from your roof into storage systems.
Stormwater management, on the other hand, requires robust engineering to handle peak flow conditions during extreme weather events.
unique solutions for managing these extreme conditions, going beyond traditional approaches.
By integrating this system with the property’s new features—including stone patios, walkways, and a gazebo—we created a harmonious blend of functionality and beauty.
The Rainwater Tank: A Slim Solution with Room to Grow
All Goes In Here
At the heart of our rainwater management lies a carefully selected 320-gallon Premier Plastics Slim Line rainwater tank. Not a matter of preference, a strategic decision driven by the constraints of the RainWise program and the unique characteristics of the property.
Compliance
RainWise compliance: The program requires a 3-foot clearance between the edge of the rain tank and the property line. The Slim Line model was the only option that fit within these parameters.
Making It Fit
Space optimization: With the basement entrance limiting available space, a second tank couldn’t be added in the immediate vicinity.
Expanding Capacity
While the initial 320-gallon tank serves as the primary collection point, our design allows for future expansion:
Linked system: Additional rain tanks will be connected to the primary Slim Line tank.
