Learning Rainwise: Our customer had long been interested in participating in Seattle Public Utilities’ RainWise program, which aims to reduce the flow rate of water entering the city’s combined sewer systems during heavy rain events. After reaching out to Product Water to learn more, they were ready to move forward with the project.
200 gallons of water storage added to 450 gallons
Key requirement: of the RainWise program is to reduce water flow before it enters the side sewer connection. We suggested performing a sewer scope to inspect the condition of the existing sewer system. This involves sending a camera into the sewer to provide a visual assessment of its condition. During the scope, we discovered that the connection from the house to the sewer pipe was broken—a problem the homeowners were unaware of since it was underground. The customer decided to repair the broken connection, ensuring proper water flow from the house to the main sewer line.
Gutters: Next, we examined the gutters and found they were over 25 years old and in need of replacement. The homeowners opted to upgrade the gutters, which allowed us to redesign their pitch and slope to optimize water drainage. This improvement enabled more efficient redirection of rainwater into our RainWise system.
Management: With the repaired sewer connection and upgraded gutters, we successfully implemented the RainWise system to meet the program’s requirements. This installation not only helps the customer manage rainwater effectively but also contributes to the city’s effort to reduce excess stormwater entering the sewer system.
