Innovative Water Supply for Raised Beds

With specific goals and high-yield rain potential, Product Water and our customer developed a strategic plan to create a rainwater supply dedicated to watering raised beds. The main objectives and challenges included:

  • Identifying suitable collection points around the home to direct rainwater into storage tanks
  • Establishing an optimal elevation for water management with a low-pressure irrigation system
  • Ensuring the system would function safely and effectively in various rainfall scenarios

To address these goals, we implemented the following approach:

  • Utilized Deviator's proprietary method to capture approximately 7,000 gallons of rainwater from 800 square feet of roof area between April and October
  • Redirected water from the gutter height and filled rain tanks safely from the bottom up, using horizontal flow to prevent overflow

Results

  • Reliable water supply for raised beds across light, moderate, and heavy rains
  • Highly efficient rain capture and tank filling, maximizing seasonal rainfall
  • Sustainable, low-maintenance operation that reduces dependence on municipal water

Rainwater Harvesting Project – Mature Landscape Irrigation

This challenging project features a mature landscape with 30 years of established plants located on the east side and front of the house, which were previously watered using a network of high-pressure soaker hoses controlled by timers. One of the main challenges we faced was the narrow space between neighboring properties, which limited the locations where rainwater tanks could be installed.

To address this, we strategically placed three Deviator inserts around the roof gutters. These inserts provide an innovative, overflow-free redirection of rainwater, allowing the system to capture up to 8,000 gallons of rainwater from 100% of the roof area during the outdoor watering season from April to October.

To maximize space and water storage, the captured rainwater is redirected into three ring tanks connected in series, cleverly placed under the back decks. This approach not only makes great use of the limited space available but also optimizes the total storage capacity by linking the tanks hydraulically.

Given that the tanks are located at the rear of the property, a three-quarter horsepower pump moves the water efficiently from the back tanks to the irrigation manifolds at the front of the house. These manifolds supply a newly installed low-pressure drip irrigation system that delivers chlorine-free water to the mature landscaping.
